Once you have created your character (I usually start with elves), you play through your own origin story and are recruited into the ‘Grey Wardens’, an ancient order established to fight against the Archdemon and his army of Darkspawn. The game features up to six origin stories, each with its own unique setting (you’ll visit eventually) and own start of the game. Combining these backgrounds with professions creates a unique character experience, with a high replay factor, due to the fact you want to find out what happened if you picked a different combination. Upon starting the game you can choose between different races and professions – ranging from elves (two types), humans (two backgrounds) and dwarves (two backgrounds), who can become warriors, mages or rogues. Developed by BioWare (and published by EA) it took us to the world of Ferelden, where we could live in a dark medieval world, taken from the books of Tolkien. The game itself turns ten years old next year, but it certainly set a new gaming standard for the RPG genre.
The Ultimate part refers to the complete version of the game, including the expansion (Awakening) and the DLC (seven story based events). Welcome to my first Backlog Review for one of the best RPGs of the 00’s, Dragon Age Origins – Ultimate Edition.
